Frontier Times

Frontier History, Border Tragedy and Pioneer Achievement

J. Marvin Hunter published the "Frontier Times" in Bandera, Texas for about thirty (30) years -- from 1923 to 1954. He wanted to record historic events which would be valuable for historians, teachers, and writers.

It is an obscure publication that may provide genealogical and family information not available from any other source. Many issues contain first-hand accounts on life on the southwestern frontier. One such article is included herein for an example of some Bandera County history. It includes names of people who disappeared as they traveled through the county.

An index has been prepared for one-hundred twenty (120) issues. It is hard cover, 6" x 9", about 400 pages. It provides an index for 2,053 articles, 448 pictures, photographs and maps, with 52,401 entries in the surname section.      An index is essential for those interested in using the Frontier Times as a resource for research. The page entitled "List of Issues in Index" provides a cross reference of the issues included in the index. A second index covering 112 issues is available on a CD. Instructions for ordering the index is located on the "How to Order" page.
