CENSUS EXTRACTS

1790 Census Extracts, 4 pp

The following are the original census schedules for 1790. Schedules for some counties are missing. No schedules are known to exist for Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Virginia. Apparently, they were destroyed during the British attack on Washington during the War of 1812. The States are: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Vermont. The counties which are accounted for in Pennsylvania are: Allegheny, Bedford, Berks, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Huntington, Lancaster, Luzerne, Mifflin, Montgomery, Northampton, Northumberland, Philadelphia, Washington, Westmoreland, and York. The census does not list individuals by name except for the head of the family.

1790-1910 Census Index, 224 pp

The index is an aid to locate census references for individuals who are extracted from Soundex records. There are 10,179 names listed in the index. All various spellings of the surname are omitted. It is a given name index and tells approximate year and State of birth, Census year and place of residence. Married women with a husband are identified with an asterisk (*). This is a very helpful tool to locate families in the census.
